Am I Going The Right Way?

dove GPS 2The Global Positioning System (GPS) transmits precise signals that determine your location, time and velocity. All you do is input your starting and ending destinations and the GPS calculates the best way for you to get there. It provides you with precise instructions along the way informing you beforehand to prepare to turn, etc. As you approach an intersection it alerts you with a series of short rings or provides you with an actual street name if you need to make a turn. Even if you decide that you are going to try and pull one over on the GPS by altering your route, it immediately alters its direction as well.

Our God-Powered Divine System (GPDS) operates in the same way. Before we were born God knew our starting point and our ending destination. He had already mapped out the course we would take in life. He even built in when we decide to take an alternate route than the one He had originally laid out for us. Although He has instructed that we turn right at various intersections in our lives, when we turn left the GPDS recalculates the new route with the sole intention of ensuring we reach our final destination. The vicissitudes of life provides so many twists and turns sometimes it appears as though our GPDS is malfunctioning. It is during these times that we cry out because it appears as though we have lost our way and our GPDS have forsaken us and left us meandering alone trying to find our way.

We feel like we are in a place called nowhere without any directions on how to make it somewhere in our desperation to reach the ubiquitous place called there. It is in these times of desperation when we long for our GPDS to accurately reveal our location.

As with a natural GPS when it malfunctions we give it more attention because we’re trying to figure out how to get it to work. We can’t quite put our figure on it yet we can’t put it down either. We desperately rack our brains about what possibly could have gone wrong with it. In this moment of desperation we so want it to work on our behalf.

It is in those times when God appears to be far off that we long for Him. In the times when He appears too close to us we take for granted He will always be there guiding our every step. It is during those times when it appears as though He is not there that we seek Him more.

Interestingly enough during these moments we find ourselves getting closer to Him and the direction that He has determined becomes more focused. As we race past the sceneries of our lives in our quest for direction we become more dependent on God and less dependent on ourselves. This is why He says that when you find me you will find yourself. Our dependency on Him ensures our revelation of Him and our discovery of ourselves.

Why does it appear as though some people are easily fulfilling their potential when others are struggling? What you must realize is that oftentimes we peer into the lives of people from the outside looking in. Fulfillment of one’s potential far exceeds earthly limitations. By that, you cannot get so consumed with someone else’s fulfillment at the detriment of stopping your own pursuits. Fulfillment of your potential is more than just material things and academic or professional titles. It is a lifelong quest nestled in the arms of a loving God directing and controlling your every step.

Inhale. Exhale. Now relax and follow the personal journey your GPDS, God-Powered Divine System, has lovingly planned for your life.

He renews my soul. He guides me along the paths of righteousness for the sake of his name. Even though I walk through the dark valley of death, because you are with me, I fear no harm. Your rod and your staff give me courage. Psalms 23:3-4 (GW)

Father, Every day I seek your guidance. Without it I seem to wander through the day without direction and guidance. You alone know the path I need to take in order to meet with the success You have promised in Your Word. You alone know the path that you envisioned for my life even before the foundation of the earth. I know that when I walk the path you have for me, I am victorious in all that I do. Please forgive me if I wander off the path, but gently guide me back onto the right one. Please, continue to lead and guide me down the path of the abundant life you envisioned before I was born. Amen.

prayer for success showersFather, Bless me to realize I cannot accomplish anything by my own might or my power, but it is all by your Spirit. Teach me how to be still and know You are God. My being still enables You to work things out for my good and in your timing. Just because something hasn’t happened as quickly as I want it to happen doesn’t mean You are denying me. I am confident in knowing that it is only a delay and not a denial. I will confidently and courageously be still and know You have everything under control and everything is coming together for my good. Amen.
