The first car I ever purchased was a Chevrolet Vega. If anyone knows anything about a Vega, you know it was one of GM’s worst nightmares and soon became one of mine. What I remember was the day I purchased it. All my sisters were there as though it was some sort of rites of passage.
A few years later I received my Associates degree and a few of my siblings were there. Then later my B.A. and a couple of them attended. When I received my Evangelists license there was no one there.
I have often thought how interesting so much importance was placed on buying a car. Yet, it was the most temporary aspect of anything I have ever done. It was considered such a major feat that all of my family stopped what they were doing and came to be with me.
Sometimes our priorities are misplaced and we place importance on meaningless things. Oftentimes that is how we interact with God. The things that matters most to Him are not high priorities in our lives. We repeatedly do things and wonder, “Why all the struggle?” The reason is quite simple. God is not in it. We have placed importance on those things that we deem to be important and have given minimal consideration to the things God considers important.
Sometimes the superfluous things of this world cause us to miss the abundance of God. We are so caught up with the Vega’s in our lives we lose sight of what God truly wants for us. There are times when we allow others to define what is important. Whenever we do we lose sight of what is important to God.
We’ve often heard that God is a God of order. God shared with me that there are times when man may feel you are out of order, but you are totally in order with God. Yes, it is a fine line. You have to know when you are in God’s order so no one can place superficial mandates on you.
There was a prophet in the Bible who got his marching orders from God not to eat or sleep in a certain village. Along the way a more seasoned prophet told him that God had also told him that this man should eat with him and stay overnight in his home. The man disobeyed God and placed his confidence and trust in another person. In doing so, he was devoured by lions. This man knew what God had instructed, but he placed more priority on the things of man and lost his life.
You see, what many people don’t realize is when you place God’s priority above all others’ you come into alignment with the order of this world and the plan God orchestrated for your life.
When our priorities are skewed and we place importance on those things that matters least, we become self-absorbed and more and more find we are MIA (missing in action). In essence, God looks around as I did when I received my Evangelist license, and no one is there.

I have confidence in you through the Lord, that ye will be none otherwise minded: but he that troubleth you shall bear his judgment, whosoever he be. Gal 5:10 (KJV)
It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man. It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in princes. Psalms 118:8-9 (KJV)
Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble is like a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint. Prov 25:19 (KJV)
Trust ye not in a friend, put ye not confidence in a guide: Micah 7:5 (KJV)
And when the prophet that brought him back from the way heard thereof, he said, It is the man of God, who was disobedient unto the word of the LORD: therefore the LORD hath delivered him unto the lion, which hath torn him, and slain him, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake unto him. 1 Kings 13:26 (KJV)
…yet, because thou didst rely on the LORD, he delivered them into thine hand. For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him…2 Chron 16:8-9 (KJV)
Father, The cares of this world sometimes overwhelm me and I find myself getting off course of what you would have for me to do. There are times I place more importance on the concerns of men and their instruction more than I do yours. Oh, please help me to place my confidence in only You. You are the only one who has my destiny in Your hands. Amen.
