Lace Them Up! Get Out There!

Shoe-string budget header-3

You can run, but you can no longer hide. Regardless if you are a business, faith-based, community-based or individual, if you don’t have an online presence you are missing the mark. Your online presence is even more critical now than ever before with  3.7 billion consumers using the Internet as a resource for information. Some even say it is their primary resource. They live or die by what they read or hear on the Internet.

If you have not included it into your marketing strategy or you are still on the sidelines afraid to lace up shoes and get in, you are already far behind the game. The evolution of online marketing and having an online presence is only increasing moment-by-moment. If you want to play, lace up those shoes and get into the game.

One of my sisters is petrified of the Internet. Her shoes are still unlaced…actually she hasn’t even put the shoestrings in yet. It is almost comical how she feels that it has this supernatural power over her. Many of you feel the same way. Don’t be afraid of it.

Truly it is not big as you, but it definitely can help you be big. The beauty of it all is that it doesn’t have to cost you an enormous amount of money, in some instances you don’t have to spend a dime, just your time.

Here’s some tidbits I want to share with you on branding and marketing on less than a shoestring budget…

  1. Post consistently. Be careful not to be overbearing. You must be consistent with posting. You can’t do it today and then wait a month, week or a few days and do it again. Your goal is to build up a following. You need evangelists to carry your message far and wide. Be consistent so your evangelists can help you spread the message. Create a schedule incorporating each of your social media platforms in leveraging your content.
  2. Target your posts. Every post should be targeted to your target audience on all the social media platforms you use like Facebook, Google Plus, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram and Pinterest. If you don’t know who your target audience is, you need to take some time and figure it out. It is useless posting and you don’t know who you are trying to reach. If you don’t know how, seek assistance to help you with your market segmentation.
  3. Manage your posts. Tools like Hootsuite and Buffer can help you manage your content and share even when you are busy, for little to no cost. You can set it up with scheduled posts to each of your social media platforms all in one swoop. Your content can post immediately, or you can schedule it as far as six months in advance. You want to work smarter and not harder. As you grow, you may want to invest in expanding those services. Each of them offers free usage with limited capabilities. That can be enough for you in the beginning. I’ve come to realize that it takes ingenuity, courage, confidence and just plain ole get to it-ness for you to be successful.
  4. It’s in the mix. No one will stay engaged to anything if they get the same boring thing every time. Mix it up. With YouTube, Periscope, Facebook Live and more, you don’t have to put the same content out there every time. Learn how to repurpose your content from a blog post, to an email, to a podcast, to a Periscope or Facebook Live stream and more. Your content should not just be words, but pictures, videos etc. Be creative with your posting, but make sure your graphics are high quality and aesthetically appealing. You don’t want to look amateurish; and you don’t have to look amateurish. There are enough sites out there like Canva and Fiverr where you don’t have to unless you want to, or you’re just too lazy and don’t care.
  5. Consider the source. You are only one source, but there are myriad sources to draw from. Include your content, others’ content, business related posts, quotes and other topics to capture the attention of your audience. You have to cultivate relationships with others and share their information. It is a quid pro quo hook-up. You help them and they will help you. You can only reach so many people, but with the help of others you can reach even more and help them do the same.
  6. Be creative…show off your personality. People get bored with just seeing stuff about your business, let your personality burst forth. Humanize yourself. Give insight into who you are and your brand. Because you are your brand. Act like a 2-year old! Have fun with it while providing invaluable information that keeps them coming back, becoming an evangelist for you and even more, become a loyal and committed consumer for your product or service.

Got it! Don’t trip over your shoe laces any more. Lace them up. Get out there and brand and market on a shoestring budget with little to no money.

6 Hacks for Planning Proficiency | Branding and Marketing On Less Than a Shoestring Budget | Jacqui Showers

One of the biggest obstacles to you succeeding is lack of planning. You have to plan. There is no getting around it. I guess there is a way of getting around it, but that constitutes failure. Unless you are a glutton for punishment, why would you want to fail? You don’t! Nobody wants to fail. Each of us have been wired to succeed. Along the way the wires may become disconnected, but with careful planning you can get reconnected and still succeed. These six principles can help you along the way.

  1. Learn your ABC’S of planning. If you never plan you will be stuck at point A and never make it to Z. Heck! You’ll never get to B for that matter. Dreams only become reality when you wake up and write it down. Wake up. Begin writing. Now execute it. It begins with planning every step one letter at a time.
  2. Get unstuck. You have been at the same place for a while. It is called lack of focus. Bring everything into focus with planning. If you don’t plan it is a micro dot on the horizon that remains afar off. You can’t seem to move towards it, because you have no road map to get you there. Plan it out. Watch how fast you reach your destination. Zoom! You’re already at that infamous place called thereplan-3d. All because you took time to plan.
  3. It’s all in my head. As long as it is in your head, it’s going to stay there like a dead head. The vision is given, but then you got to write the vision. How do you expect to move forward with the vision and you have not written it down. You don’t! In your head only, it can’t get into others heads. Get it out your head, so it can get its wings and take flight.
  4. I don’t have time to plan. That’s one of the biggest lies I’ve ever heard. If you don’t have time to plan, then you don’t have time to be successful. Fail to plan and you are definitely planning to fail. Respect planning and you demonstrate that you respect success. The only way you’re going to maximize your journey to success you have to plan it out each and every day. Without it, you will never experience your full potential and success will elude you.
  5. Where do I start? I am confused. Be confused no more. It begins with planning. It ends with planning. Everything else is execution. You can’t execute effectively if you don’t plan. Write the plan. Make it plain. Now run passionately with it. Others will follow as long as you have a plan. There’s no reason to run in circles because you failed to plan. Fail to plan. You fail to execute. Heck! You just fail.
  6. Start somewhere. If five years seems too much just plan for one year. If one year is overwhelming, just plan for six months. If that causes you stress, then do it for a month. Can’t seem to do that, just plan out a week. If that throws you off, plan a day. Just plan an hour and go from there. If you never embrace planning, you’ll never succeed. You got to start somewhere. It might as well be now.

What prevents you from planning? Are you working your plan every day? Have you shared it with others to help you move the plan forward? Love to hear…leave your comments below.

5 Ways to Brand & Market in the Midst of Fear | Branding & Marketing On Less Than a Shoestring Budget | Jacqui Showers

Trepidation is inherent in anything new you want you to tackle. It doesn’t really go away, but what happens is that you do it even in the midst of the fear. You may be experiencing some trepidation about branding and marketing and what you don’t know. That is typical. It is atypical if you don’t.

  1. Every actionable step you take will cause those voices to eventually be silenced. Those negative voices in your head may appear to be overwhelming, but you have the power to silence their perceived power by taking action. Those words of self-doubt will diminish as you begin to move forward and just get busy.
  2. You have to ask yourself if you, your company, service or product is worth it. You may have a great idea but if no one knows about its greatness, it is like having none at all. Don’t be afraid to tackle branding and marketing and shamelessly trumpeting far and wide.
  3. Believe it or not you have confidence and courage. You’ve already exhibited confidence and courage by doing more than most. You have something to brand and market! You took a step out of the realm of fear and you will continue to take steps as you embrace branding and marketing and just do it.
  4. Your diligence will cause the money to come. The more you position yourself in the marketplace and people become aware of your product or service, the money will come. I can guarantee if you don’t brand and market, the money won’t come. No one will know you exist and so they can’t support you or become your next customer or client.
  5. You may not have an enormous amount of money, but you have ingenuity. Lack of money will not be able to stop you, because your ingenuity will overshadow your lack of money. It is your ingenuity that will allow you to move past all of the negative voices that say you can’t. You will only hear the voice that resonates loud and clear, “You can!” Believe me you will!

Are you still experiencing trepidation? Well, move past it and brand and market like a pro. Yes, on less than a shoe string budget.

5 Steps to Get a Professional Photo for Almost No Money | Branding & Marketing On Less Than a Shoestring Budget | Jacqui Showers

Need a professional photo, but don’t have a lot of money? I have a great Branding & Marketing On Less Than a Shoestring Budget tip for you.

1. Get a coupon. Most department stores like JC Penney, Target, or Sears offer free photo coupons for a free photo session offering you one free pose. Take advantage of these offers, they are cost-efficient to creating your brand.

2. Schedule an appointment. Once you schedule the appointment take time to decide what you want to wear. Keep in mind, similar to your driver’s license, more people will see this photo than any other. It will be plastered everywhere. Make sure your laces are all tied up and you’re putting your best face forward.

3. Get a professional make up job. Schedule an appointment at one of the cosmetic counters at the department store such as Macy’s or JC Penney just before your appointment that way your makeup is fresh. All it will cost is the purchase of the make-up. You will have a professional polished look. More than likely you only have to spend about $40-$50. You probably was going to buy that make-up anyway. In essence, your professional look is virtually free.

4. Pick up your photo. In a week or so, they’ll contact you to pick up your photo. I want to stress that you have to be careful, not to purchase all of the pictures. They will definitely try to sell them to you and you will more likely want to buy them because they will be awesome. If they offer a digital version, buy it. If you don’t want to spend the extra money, just scan it in. You can purchase additional poses, but you don’t have to do that. Most of the time when people want a photo of you, it will be the same one that you send all the time anyway. This becomes your brand.

5. Brand and market you. Your new professional photo will be used throughout your branding and marketing. In essence, your face will be tied to everything you do. Walla! You have an awesome professional photo. You did it all on less than shoestring budget.

That exactly what I did! Now my photo has become part of my brand and people recognize me everyone go.

Brand and Market Me? You Bet You Can!

How do I market? How do I position? How do I put my best face forward? How do I develop a website? How do I effectively use social media? How do I do it if I don’t have money, resources or time? How do I let the world know it exists? How do I develop a unique recognizable look? I have a message…I have a product…I have a song…or I have a book. Now what?

I’m bombarded with these questions every day. Regardless if it’s an emerging business, ministry or individual with a product or service, it’s what concerns people. You’re a creative being who has been given creative ideas. You also have the wisdom, understanding and knowledge to make it happen. Just do it!

Many sit on it. They sit on it because they are afraid. Many are waiting for everything to be perfect. Many are saying they don’t have the money to pay for it. I always retort back, Do it yourself. If you want to brand and market it then you will have to do it yourself. Initially you may not have the money, but you have been given the intellectual ability to learn and to do it until the money comes. One thing for sure, the money will not come if you don’t do something.

You can brand and market yourself without spending a lot of money or in some instances no money but it takes ingenuity and bravery. You can’t be so afraid you are not willing to step out of your comfort zone. All of the inertia about what you don’t have dissipates when you just begin to do it. Stop being afraid! Move out of your comfort zone and do it.

If you have the ability to learn, and I know you’re no dunce, you can brand and market yourself. It’s easy. Just make up your mind you’re not going to be afraid or limit yourself anymore. That is what I did. I know that if I can do it you can do it. It will be simpler for you because I’m doing the research, providing the instruction and giving you the information. All you have to do is use it.
