Unlocked Doors Flunged Open: Showers’ Blessing

red-door-flunged-open copyWhen I was about six-years old I accidentally locked myself in the bathroom. Most of the time I did not lock the door, but for some reason I decided to lock it. After I finished my business and tried to unlock the door I could not do it. I was terrified. I began to scream and holler for help.

Two of my older sisters rushed to the door. On the other side of the door they tried to guide me through unlocking it. Fear prevented me from being successful. It seemed like forever. They decided that for the rest of my life I was going to have to live in the bathroom because there was no way out. They slid a pop bottle cap under the door saying all my food would be placed in that top. They told me that I would have to sleep in the bathtub. Needless to say they painted a dismal picture about my situation and my future.

All I could do was cry. It appeared as though I was stuck behind that locked bathroom door for the rest of my life. They said that I would not be able to go to school, get married, have children or a career because I would have to remain behind that locked door. All while they were outlining such a dismal future, I was frantically trying to unlock that door. The more they talked the more frantic and determined I became to unlock that door.

Finally, whatever I did the door was unlocked! I flung it opened and walked out that bathroom. As quickly as I had locked myself in that room, I had figured out how to unlock it. I was set free to walk through the open door and experience the tremendous possibilities for my life.

Many times we find ourselves stuck behind locked doors. We constantly ask ourselves is this the way we will have to live the rest of our lives or can there be something better? Like my sisters, there are people who paint dismal pictures of our existence leaving very little room for our hopes and dreams. Unfortunately, all too often we believe the unfound hype and find ourselves locked behind the closed doors of our minds and circumstances afraid and unable to open them.

Until you become courageous enough to unlock the door, your dreams are also locked away. Behind the door lies the fulfillment of all the dreams that God has placed inside of you.

Just like my sisters dangled my future before me on the other side of the locked door, God has our future on the other side as well. All we have to do is unlock the door, invite Him to come in and live the dreams He placed in each of us.

Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. Rev 3:20 (KJV)

For a great door and effectual is opened unto me, and there are many adversaries. 1 Cor 16:9 (KJV)

And that’s not all: We throw open our doors to God and discover at the same moment that he has already thrown open his door to us. We find ourselves standing where we always hoped we might stand – out in the wide open spaces of God’s grace and glory, standing tall and shouting our praise. Romans 5:2 (TM)

The one who is holy, who is true, who has the key of David, who opens {a door} that no one can shut, and who shuts {a door} that no one can open, says: I know what you have done. See, I have opened a door in front of you that no one can shut. You only have a little strength, but you have paid attention to my word and have not denied my name. Rev 3:7-8 (GW)

Father, I am tired of living behind locked doors because I am afraid to pursue my dreams. I will not listen to others whose opinions are not of my best interest. I’m so excited about walking through the open doors of opportunities that You have flung open for me. I will not be afraid to walk through them and to live out the dreams You envisioned for me before the beginning of time.  Amen.
